Hi, my name is Kaitlyn Matney and I am the Lead Preschool Teacher. I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher because I wanted to help kids. 

I enjoy getting to watch these tiny humans grow into their personalities and getting to love them well while teaching them about Jesus. I cannot imagine myself doing anything else and I owe all that to God because he is the one who led me here to KPC and welcomed me with open arms. 

Educational Background 

I was born and raised here in Shelbyville for most of my life until we moved to Greenwood the summer before I started middle school. I attended Center Grove High School and graduated from there in 2016. It was after that when my journey into early childhood education field took off and I have been doing this for almost 8 years now. I have times where I think about other things that I could do career wise but none of them compare to what I am doing now - because all the small moments that I spend with these tiny humans makes everything that comes with this career worth it. It is true when they say, "it takes a big heart to teach little minds." I completed my CDA in February of this year (2023) and have hopes to go back to school and earn my associates degrees in early education. 

It is funny to think that I almost gave up on this career in the summer of 2021, because when I moved back to Shelbyville, I couldn't find any places to work but then out of nowhere KPC was placed in my path and I whole heartedly believe that God's hands were on that happening. 

Spirutal Background 

I first gave my life to Jesus in 2018 but then life happened and I fell into a deep depression and instead of running towards him, I actually ended up running away. 

It wasn't until I started KPC that I finally decided it was time to give my life back to him because I realized that I couldn't do it on my own. The beauty about all of it is that no matter how far off the deep end that you go, he will always be there to pull you back onto the shore and guide you into the right direction. I wish everybody knew Jesus the way that I know him and I think that is one of my favorite things about working in ministry because I get to teach tiny humans about how awesome our God really is and that is something that will stick with them for a lifetime. 

Personal Background 

I have been married to my husband Cody for two years now but we have been together for almost three! He has literally been my light in the darkness and another perfect gift from God, planted right into my life at the exact moment that I needed him the most. We are both HUGE animal lovers and have had many animals in the years that we have been together, ranging from ducks to raccoons and everything in between but now we only have our two fur babies - Mylo who is an mini australian shepherd and Raven who is a german shepherd. Another interesting thing about me is that I am also a HUGE book lover - I have a dream of becoming a famous author someday and hope to publish something before I enter my 30s but we will see how that goes! Reading is just soothing - it allows me to slip away from the world from time to time and go on an exciting adventure with each book read. I also feel safe and content between the pages of a good book. 

I cannot wait to meet your little ones and show them just how amazing this life can be when you have Jesus in your heart.
